The Health and Safety Executive recently changed their licensing renewal procedure to an electronic document submission process instead of the face-to-face interviews we are all used to.
We were certainly sceptical about the new process to say the least. The new process would take longer to prepare the submission to the HSE, and would involve a more detailed submission in terms of the documents they required up front.
However, after discussing the process with other ARCA members, and following our successful renewal of a 3 year asbestos license, Emchia believe that this new process will shine a light on the rogue licensed contractors who have been known throughout the industry to maintain their asbestos licenses whilst having underlying poor performance and poor standards of health and safety. The new process digs deeper in to the performance of the company and ensures that an asbestos contractor is fully compliant and professional in all areas of the business from senior management to site operatives.
We are proud to have been awarded a 3 year license to continue removing all types of asbestos. The HSE licensing inspector commented:
“Overall this was a well presented application with relevant and good quality evidence. The company are clearly trying to be exemplars in the industry which is to be encouraged.”
